Pienza and its Flowers

A festival of flowers to celebrate the spring.

PIENZA | May

Sirio Mangiavacchi, a nurseryman from Pienza, wanted to valorise his town and decided to do so by decorating it in flowers. And so “Pienza and its flowers” was born in 1966. Over the first decade, in the month of May the two focal points of the town – Piazza Pio II and the Palazzo Papale – were adorned with floral motifs so that the entire town could celebrate the arrival of warmer weathers.

By now considered the canonical Spring Festival, local nursery keepers reunite and special events are organised, including the opening of some gardens of Pienza and the entire Val d’Orcia.
